National Apprenticeship Week Q&A with Aasis

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we asked our apprentices a few questions about what they’ve gained from their apprenticeship, their experience and future plans.

Aasis, is currently enrolled on the BTEC Building Services Engineering course.

Why did you want to go into an apprenticeship in Building Services?

The fact that you can gain a qualification without getting into any debt as well as getting payed and getting a job at the end of it. As you hear people coming out with 1st class degrees and not being able to get a job in their chosen degree as well as not being able to get other jobs because they are overqualified. An apprenticeship offers a secure career path.

How is the balance between working and studying?
Split time during work and home to finish completing assignments.

What are your aspirations on finishing your course?
Go onto further education at degree level.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship as opposed to studying the course directly?
No student debt as well as getting a wage and experience a secure career path.

How does your employer feel about you being on an apprenticeship?
My employer has a structured programme in place for apprentices.

How do people react when you tell them you’re on an apprenticeship?
A lot of people think very highly of them and believe it is the way forward.
