At UCG, fostering a sense of belonging, respect, and inclusion among our students is a cornerstone of our educational mission. Recently, our Enrichment team collaborated with the Travel & Tourism and Health & Social Care departments to host a spectacular event that exemplified these values – Cultural Day 2023.
Students played a pivotal role in transforming our campus into a vibrant tapestry of cultures, with stalls representing countries from around the world. They showcased their roots through a captivating array of music, cultural clothing, and delectable snacks. It was a truly immersive experience that celebrated the rich diversity of our student body.
But Cultural Day is just one of the many occasions when UCG underscores its commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. Throughout the year, we actively engage in commemorating significant events such as Black History Month (October), International Men’s Day (November 19), Holocaust Memorial Day (January 27), LGBTQ+ History Month (February), and International Women’s Day (March 8). These observances serve as important reminders of the values we hold dear.
At UCG, we firmly believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Our goal is to prepare our students for life in modern Britain by instilling in them a profound understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs. We take pride in nurturing a sense of social and moral responsibility that will serve our learners well throughout their lives.
Moreover, our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion is not confined to events and observances. We collaborate closely with City of Westminster College (CWC) and College of North West London (CNWL) to ensure that these principles are embedded at the core of our institutions. This integration is aimed at meeting the needs of our staff, students, and delivery partners, ensuring that everyone is fully supported in their journey to reach their fullest potential without the burden of harassment or prejudice.
Cultural Day 2023 was a resounding success, highlighting the vibrant tapestry of cultures that make up our UCG community. But it is only one thread in the larger fabric of our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We remain dedicated to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
