CWC students take part in Save Soho exhibition

As part of the Real Life Photography programme, a number of City of Westminster College students took part in an exhibition designed to capture the character of Soho. Tammy Hines and Michaela Dubell who study the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design and BTEC HNC in Photography students Arthur Dos Santos and Katy Burysz, all submitted winning entries which were featured at the Save Soho event.

“The students were actively encouraged to take part, though it was not a requirement of their course,” said Course Leader Diane Bielik. “I’m pleased with how many students submitted photographs to the judging panel and very proud of the work they produced.”

The event offered student photographers the opportunity to showcase their response to assignments set by industry partners of Real Life Creative Ltd. The work submitted by the students was put to a judging panel comprised of a professional photographer, the Curzon Marketing Director and the Real Life team.

“Soho is in a rapid state of change due to property development triggered by the construction of the new Cross Rail station at Tottenham Court Road,” said Gary Nolan, Managing Director of Real Life Creative Ltd. “Importantly there is a proposed Cross Rail 2 which threatens further development of the area, including the closure of the Curzon Cinema itself to make way for a proposed new station entrance. The Save Soho campaign is in response to this proposal.”

The Curzon Cinema has been a part of the London film scene since 1959 and acts as a major hub for the creative industries, often hosting live music events, film talks and art exhibitions.
