City of Westminster College and global security software company Trend Micro are pleased to once again present a photography exhibition featuring work by the students of City of Westminster College’s BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma and Extended Diploma Photography courses. The theme this year has been based around data protection, with the students working with ideas around security, hacking, ID theft and security of personal data on phones and computers, with the exhibition entitled ‘Securing Our Futures’.
Launching on Thursday 17th March with a private view, the exhibition will be open to the public Friday 18th March between the hours of 3.30pm-6.30pm at Trend Micro’s offices in Paddington Basin. Currently Trend Micro offer four bursaries – students progressing from first year to their second year can apply, as well as those moving from their third year to a HE course.
The exhibition is the result of a partnership between the two organisations which was formed in 2014, designed to enhance and develop the students’ study and employability opportunities. The partnership launched last year with an exhibition entitled ‘Our Digital Futures’, based on a theme set by Trend Micro. As part of the preparation for this exhibition, IT experts from Trend Micro visited students at the college to discuss data protection and security.
Nathan Loughran, Head of School for Creative Industries said, “We are really excited to be building on the partnership with Trend Micro that began last year. Trend Micro provide a fantastic opportunity for our students to work on a project that allows them valuable industry experience to be exhibited within a vibrant environment. They have been very encouraging and supportive to our students allowing them the artistic freedom to respond to the exhibition theme as they wish. Our students have risen to the challenge and we’re very proud of the final work they’ve produced.”
“Teaching good cyber online practices for the “digital natives” is imperative – as all too often this generation forgets about the privacy and data protection issue until it’s too late,” said Bharat Mistry, Cyber Security Consultant at Trend Micro. “If we can teach good online practices at a young age then the chances are these principles will keep them safe throughout their cyber lifespan.”
