Female Business students attend Inspiring Women event

Last week several female Business students were invited to attend an Inspiring Women in Business and Enterprise event at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). The eight BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma students formed part of a group of 125 female students who were introduced to a number of successful women from a wide range of industries and who are all at different stages of their careers.

Some of the inspiring women who attended the event included Emma Jacobs; a journalist with the Financial Times, Helen Ouseley; Vice President of Goldman Sachs and Lynne Chambers; Group Head of Talent at the London Stock Exchange Group.

It was also attended by Angela Eagle MP, Shadow First Secretary of State and Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills who said, “I have long campaigned for more women in industry and more women entrepreneurs and more women going into science, technology and engineering. Young girls, from all backgrounds, need to understand the wealth of opportunities available to them, crucial for their individual success but also to the success of our future economy.”

Although the UK has a large number of highly successful female business leaders and entrepreneurs, research shows that young women in education have little idea about possible career prospects, what the large array of job titles and roles actually entail and how to get these jobs.

“While at the event a number of our students applied for work experience at the London Stock Exchange as they enjoyed it so much,” said Wajid Abbas, Business and Finance Lecturer at CWC. “The event really inspired them and they all had a better idea of which industry they want to pursue a career in thanks to the networking aspect of the event.”
