National Apprenticeship Week Q&A with Harry

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we asked our apprentices a few questions about what they’ve gained from their apprenticeship, their experience and future plans.

Harry, is currently enrolled on the BTEC Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.

Why did you want to go into an apprenticeship in Construction?
The Building Services industry really appealed to me and I wanted to earn money and get a qualification at the same time.

What made you choose City of Westminster College?
It was chosen for me by my employer as previous apprentices have recommended it.

How are you finding the course so far? Do you feel you are learning?
I feel I am making good progress and I enjoy the course.

How is the balance between working and studying?
The balance is very manageable if you stay on top of it, however if you don’t it does become difficult.

What do you think you have achieved on the course?
At the moment it is very early days however I feel I have achieved good grades in all of my work so far.

What are your aspirations on finishing your course?
I would like to complete the Level 3 course and continue with my studies.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to other people, and why?
I definitely would as in my opinion it gives you the upper hand on University students as you not only become qualified but you also finish an apprenticeship with a few years of experience.

How do people react when you tell them you’re on an apprenticeship?
They agree that it is the best route now as you get experience as well as qualifications.
