The Media Industry comes to City of Westminster College online

Media students at City of Westminster College are taking advantage of advanced remote learning technology in a series of masterclasses delivered by leading media industry players.

The media teaching team began a series of masterclass speakers in the autumn term, including key figures from Capital FM, the BBC, social media and the UK’s newest station, Podcast Radio.

Lecturers recognised the chance to keep this initiative going during online teaching. In fact, the technology has enabled a new series of masterclasses in the next month.

First off was Sky News. Kevin Donaldson is a director for this world leading news gathering organisation, and showed students how the channel’s output is being planned and delivered in a lockdown situation.

Next up video and audio voiceover Annette Rizzo sharing the secret of her success from a professional standard home studio.

In future weeks, lecturers hope to organise more input from key people in media production and journalism including BBC television and ITV.

Speaking about the initiative, Head of Faculty Rebecca Tristram said “Understanding technology and its application has never been more important for our students. Lockdown has meant an even greater use of remote connectivity, and we’re so grateful that our extensive industry contacts are working with us to deliver a first class student experience.”

In the future it’s hoped similar masterclasses could exploit remote learning to invite contributors from all over the world.
